Refreshing waters

It was another day in the upper 90s so on the way home, I stopped by the fountain on the town square. It was refreshing to walk around a bit after being in the car for the 45 minute commute home from work. I wish I could have soaked my feet but I believe that's not allowed.

Ice Cream!

We just got a new ice cream shop in town! Hooray! This will be our 3rd attempt to sustain one and I hope this one is successful. We did our part to support the local business -- I got pistachio almond, Mark got Butterfinger and Luke got mango. It was yum!

The Palace

I wish this theatre was still open and showing current runs. It is really pretty all lit up in the evening on the rare occassion they are showing a movie. The last time I was there, we saw To Kill a Mockingbird, original black and white. Part of a library reading program/special event. It was awesome.

Serene

On the Guadalupe River again. I like looking at the water there. I went back to see if this flower had bloomed but I could not find it again. It must have drifted away.

Mailbox

Like the birdhouse posted earlier, this is pretty fancy. It matches the main house (must be something in the Seguin water that makes people want to match freestanding accessories to their homes).

Treehouse

My husband and I go walking sometimes and I always like looking at this treehouse, one of the fanciest I have seen. I would have loved one like this when younger. But then again, I might enjoy it now as well! A quiet escape from all the things going on in our lives.

Sorry about the lack of posts, last week was the final days of our renovation project of the house and it just was not pleasant and consumed almost all our time. It's mostly done now and the worse is over so my posts should be more consistent.

Rain Thingy

I thought these lion heads made for some very cool rain whatevers. I don't know what these are called either but I am having an sort of animal thing going this week I see. I just thought they looked neat and it's a nice way of directing rain rather than have it just go into a regular rain gutter onto the pavement.

Fancy Dwellings

One of the fanciest bird houses I have ever seen. It was filled with activity but when I snapped the shot, the little birds flew off or went inside.

Horse Thingy

This is the only one I have seen in town. I really like it. I don't know the formal name of it but it's where people use to tie their horse reins in the days when that was the means of transportation. This one has been preserved nicely.

It's summer and the pecan trees have put out their leaves. I've been looking at a lot of trees lately. Why? Because there is a little white, fuzzy caterpiller that likes the poor pecan trees. And I want to make sure those things don't fall on me! They just drop out of the trees like leaves on a fall day. Yuck. Anyway, a couple of years ago, the worms were so bad, most of the pecan trees in town were eaten up. It can be horrible. This is one of our trees in the backyard.

Red Vader

Also from the car gathering yesterday. This truck got my attention because the front looks like a face to me. A little like Darth Vader but that's just what came to my mind.

Cruising

Time to cruise for the old-timers. We were at my favorite burger joint - kitchen still not useable. :( However, we got a treat b/c there was a club meeting going on and all these cool vintage cars were parked out front. They were restored beautifully and it was nice to see and hear the owners inside. They were a lively bunch and seem to enjoy each other. It's nice to have people with whom to share your hobby. We heard them talk about meeting down by the square but we didn't follow them.

Home Renovations

We're in the final stages of some major renovations to our 100+ year old home so I was too busy tub hunting after work yesterday to post. Sorry everyone! I did hunt around Seguin on the way home in search of an interesting parking situation but discovered we are quite unexciting in that department. Lots of 2 hour parking and some free parking along the 2 main downtown streets but that's about it.

We went to a place called Clawfoot Bathtub. It's in San Marcos which is 20 minutes from Seguin. We wanted a new old-fashion clawfoot tub and found one though not the Texas tub you see here. We also got to see other interesting tubs and accessories (talk about pricey), meet a good old hippy (very nice guy) and an adorable cat name Pretty Kitty.

Mini Vacation

Hi everyone. Sorry I have been absent a few days. I had tech trouble this weekend, then jury duty! So I'm back. And in honor of jury duty, I am posting this photo. The Guadalupe County Court House is art deco, which is both refreshing and unexpected in the town square setting, where other buildings are not of that period. But it all seems to work and I do like the courthouse here more than when I served jury duty in SA. Our courtroom has very tall windows on both sides of the room so I gazed outside at swaying tree tops as I waited for my name to be called.

Change of scenery

Two of my earlier posts were of very traditional homes in Seguin. Here's one I like b/c it's so different! Check out the color! I wouldn't want to paint my own home in such bright colors but I do love looking at this one. Even their garage to the right and a shed in the back yard are painted in the same bright colors. Fun house.

Ghostly flowers

Along the banks of the Guadalupe again. I was out there enjoying the sounds of the water and the breeze. I liked these wildflowers and tried several times to snap a shot but the wind was playing with me. However, when I uploaded the pictures, I kind of liked the way the flowers sway in the picture.

We have a lot of big old trees around us. I really liked this one next to the Guadalupe River. I wish I knew how old it is.

Bags o' Water

We went to one of the best burger places I've ever been to -- Kirby's Korner. I love this place. I was sitting there and noticed these little bags of water hanging and had no idea what they were or why I've never noticed them in years past. My husband said that some people believe hanging bags of water keeps flies away from the area. Maybe it works b/c I did not see flies over here.

Peachy

Texas is not known to be "peach country," which is a real shame since I LOVE peaches (grew up on sweet peaches in North Carolina). Peaches need a certain amount of cold, cold weather and we just don't get enough here. Despite this my husband gave me a peach tree 3 or 4 years ago for Vietnamese New Year (Tet) and we planted it. We had ONE (!) wonderfully sweet peach after the first year and nothing last year. This year is looking up because this guy is one of several we've spotted!

Time of Day

I have always liked seeing this clock every time I drive down Austin Street.
