Horse Thingy

This is the only one I have seen in town. I really like it. I don't know the formal name of it but it's where people use to tie their horse reins in the days when that was the means of transportation. This one has been preserved nicely.

*hehehe* Name Schmame. I like Horse Thingy—although if I recall correctly I think they were called hitching posts. Just to make sure I googled it and this is what I found "a fixed post with a ring to which a horse can be hitched to prevent it from straying" I'm wondering if that's where the word hitched came from in regards to getting married. :D I'm also wondering if the post could stand up to a horse being hitched to it now.

Oh, yeah, the bridle would break before this hitching post would budge. Looks like its set in cement. It also looks like a replica, but nothing wrong with that. It's a nice touch.

In Texas it may have had recent use.

You're right about that Denton. I know with the recent hikes in gas prices I saw a piece on the news about this hair dresser I think somewhere in Texas that had started riding his horse to work. I'll have to look to see if I can find a link to the story.
