Have you noticed that the ants are PARTICULARLY large this spring?? I am scared I am going to get bit up like crazy if I don't watch where I'm stepping and standing for pictures. :)
While I'm not an expert on ants, those don't look like the regular fireants around here, maybe they're some of those Strawberry's Crazy Ants? Supposed to be harmful to electronics, not interested in biting people or animals.
These look like the ordinary red ants we always used to have around here in Seguin when I was a kid, until invasive fire ants killed most of the colonies. Typically they don't build mounds but may have a ring of debris around the entrance hole.
