Skies Over Seguin Mid-June

Clouds and sunset over Seguin
Last night's sky shot - what a nice bit of rain we had but we could use more. The clouds always make for interesting sky shots. Have a great Friday, everyone.

The Wind Sure Blew In Fast!

March 2012 storm blows in
When I got home from work, it felt warm and muggy. Not pleasant to me to sit outside with Smokey on the deck. But after twenty minutes or so, I went out to carry in a small plant my mother had given me so that any hard rain (as is forecasted for us) would not damage it. Well, to my delight and surprise, the cold front was blowing in finally and the skies was churning clouds this way and that. It made for a wonderful show with the different shades of grade constantly changing. By the time an hour had passed, the temperature had dropped over ten degrees and it was cool enough to put on a light jacket for a dinner out. Then, a cup of hot chocolate. :)

Skies About Town

Sunset over the new ranch
Above is how the sky looked this evening above our backyard in town. This week we got additional rain and this evening, they forecast maybe two more inches. Wow. This may already be more than we saw most of last year. Just kidding, I don't know that for a fact but it seems like it. We are very happy for clouds and rain! Even if we do have a bee class in the morning! Below is another look at the mill where I work. We make steel and it's a dusty, dirty job and environment but I look around and I often see a lot of beauty around me.

Monday Sky

sky 11 Jul 11

Here's what today looks like from our backyard and on the ramp of the honey house. It's HOT. Oppressive really, but the sky is lovely. Hope you had a good Monday. Four more days until some chill time. :-)

Sky Watch Friday - Downtown Decoration

Downtown building & wreath

Happy Friday everyone - less than 20 days until Christmas. Can you believe it? Can't we slow down time somehow? Isn't it funny that when you are young, you want the time to move along faster. And as you get older, it moves so fast that you have no idea sometimes when you'll get a breather. Someone once told me, when I was young, that time only goes by faster as you get older. REALLY??? Is it because we have so much more we are doing or want to do? Is it because we are distracted by things around us that take our attention away from what's in front of us at the moment? I don't know. The Buddhist way of thinking involves being aware of the moment we are in right now so that we can fully appreciate what we are experiencing. I try to do this but sometimes fail; I guess that's what life is about - trying.

Soooo...on a lighter note, here's a shot of one of the wreaths decorating our square downtown. I really liked the sky that day (couple of Saturdays ago) and snapped this as we were getting in the car. There are some really neat old buildings downtown and sometimes I wish we had the money to convert one of those old buildings into a store front for our bee business on the first floor and a personal living space up top. That'd be so fun!

I hope y'all have a wonderful Friday tomorrow and a glorious weekend ahead. It's suppose to be EIGHTY DEGREES Saturday. Can you believe that??? Then it'll drop back down to a more acceptable 50 or 60-something Sunday and so on. Yay! I love wearing my jackets, and scarves. This morning we had frost all over the windshield. It was nice!

Be sure to check out the Skywatch site if you would like to see some more cool sky shots for this week. :-)

Skywatch Friday

Sunset at Big Oaks

Happy, happy day, everyone! Not only is tomorrow Friday but it's also the day I get to fly home. :-) I haven't had to be a full week away from home for work in a while so it's been a little hard. I miss my honey bee and my home. So...I was looking through some picture when I was feeling homesick and I wanted to share this one with you. It's a sky shot of sunset just outside city limits at one of our bee yards. It's lovely out there in the Big Oaks area. I hope you all have had a great week and that the weekend is EVEN BETTER!

Sky Watch over Texas Agricultural Education & Heritage Center

Tx Agricultural Education & Heritage Center

Recently Mark participated in Ag Week at the Red Barn here in town. We call it the Red Barn but officially, it is the Texas Agricultural Education and Heritage Center, founded in order to educate the public about the importance of agriculture as part of our heritage and how it impacts our lives today. Mark was out there speaking about the importance of bees so I was glad I had a chance to visit during lunch one day because I had not been to the center – it is really neat out there! I still need to go back sometime and check out all the buildings since I only had about twenty minutes there during that visit. Here are a few shots of my brief visit.

Speaking with 4th graders from Floresville

Above, Mark is speaking to one of the many groups of fourth graders from surrounding area schools that have been scheduled to visit during Ag Week. They asked questions if there was time and shared stories about getting stung and interesting things they know about bees. When asked if they knew what food bees make, he said one of the kids told him bees make cereal (as in the Honey Nut Cheerios from the commercial that many kids like to tell us about when we go to fairs and shows). Too cute.

Below is a shot of another group I passed by out in the garden area. I think it’s great that the kids are learning about gardening and the benefits of growing your own in addition to having produce from the farmers in the area. There are so many other things to see out there, I will be sure to visit again and highlight other things for you.

Happy Friday Skywatch!

It's unreal what we see sometimes.

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you have had a great week and will have an even better weekend coming up. Here's a shot of the sky right in front of our house recently - isn't it lovely? Lately it has been hot, hot, hot here with temperatures in the upper 90s and sometimes a heat index of over 100. Blazing sun with no clouds to buffer the intensity. Still, it hasn't been as hot as last year! :-)

Sky Watch Welcome

Awesome storm rolling in

I shot this awesome sky earlier this week as a front came through our area. We've been enjoying some much needed rain while I've been gone. Sure will green things up again. :-)

Sky Watch

Cool old tree

Happy end of the week, everyone! Made it. :-) This is a shot of a cool scene we enjoyed while riding around the countryside around Seguin. It's a lovely time to do that so we go out every weekend in order to bask in the sun and soak in the wildlife, wildfflowers and everything mother nature has to offer up this spring. It's absolutely beautiful.

Sky Watch

Future view for the bees

Well, I'm a little late on the Sky Watch for the week so sorry about that. Was feeling under the weather most of the week so I just didn't have the energy to post.

This is a view of the countryside where we're going to have bee yard #4 soon. I love this area and right now, the weather's been pretty perfect for south Texas. Not too hot yet and the flowers keep blooming like crazy. If I'm this happy, then I can't imagine how happy the bees must be.

Sky Watch Friday

Mesquite, sky & bees

Happy Friday, everyone. Today I was told that I seemed more invigorated, energized and happier. I think it had to do with the fact that I was at the Texas Library Association's Annual Conference yesterday with Mark. He's manning his publisher's booth this year at the Exhibits. It's so much fun! Especially since neither of us work in libraries any longer. Got to see friends and make new ones. Anyway, I am feeling very contented today and that makes me feel good.

Here's a happy
sky watch shot for you - sunset sky with more Mesquite trees and a little bee. Do you see her? They've been enjoying the fair weather of recent weeks though the past couple of days have been rainy on and off. This will really give the trees, grass and flowers a real boost! The Mesquite trees should be blooming soon and the bees love that. You know what that means - good honey!

Have a great weekend! And for you San Antonians - HAPPY FIESTA!

Sky Watch

Sunset

Thank goodness it's Friday tomorrow. The week has flown by and I sure feel tired so I'm just going to say goodnight. But before I do that, here's a shot of a sunset I shot while visiting another potential bee yard with Mark recently. What a great sky we saw that night.

For more of this week's great sky shots, be sure to visit the Sky Watch page. Good night folks!

Sky Watch

Sunset Dec09 A

Happy new year, everyone! Hope you have a very safe and wonderful evening. Be careful out there!

Shot this sky last Sunday evening as we were driving out to a friend's home for dinner. It was so spectacular and beautiful. Great thing Mark drove so I could shoot out the window! :-)

Check out Sky Watch this week for other great shots.

Sky Watch Friday

My Father's Farm

This was a shot I snapped when I was roaming around, away from the bees that Mark and a friend were placing at My Father's Farm, an organic vegetables farm that is now home to ten of our hives. I haven't had time to take more pictures of the farming operation but I will soon. I have been wanting to take a closer look at what's currently growing in the garden. I know I saw great looking cilantro when we dropped off the bees. :-)

Be sure to check out other wonderful sky shots today at the official Sky Watch site! Have a wonderful day, everyone!

Skywatch Friday

Beeyard at My Father's Farm

Good morning, everyone! What a wonderful Friday it's going to be for me. I am on VACATION today! Though I'm not traveling anywhere, I have a packed day and a busy weekend lined up for myself and I'm looking foward to some Thien time.

It's pretty cold outside and we wait expectantly for some white fluff to fall from the sky. I so miss seeing snow but I'm not going to hold my breath today. I'm just happy it's cold. I can't really get into the holidays if it's 80 degrees! :-)

This is my Skywatch shot for this week. This is off FM 775 on the outskirts of Seguin at My Father's Farm, which is a farm growing all sorts of organic veggies they take to local markets. (That's a separate post for sure.) This is the bees' new home and in the shot, Mark and our friend's son, Chris, are unloading the ten heavy hives and placing them on their stands. Here's a shot of them placed -

Beeyard at My Father's Farm

As some of you know, we recently drove to Mississippi to pick up some bees from JN Russell of Russell Apiaries. Very fun time - roadtrips with Mark are awesome! Snacks, laughs and lots o' bees. But NO stings! Yay!

Check out the other Skywatchers also! Great shots this week.

Sky Watch Friday

Pretty country ride one Saturday

It's another beautiful south Texas sky for your viewing pleasure. :-) Isn't it a great looking spot? I snapped this on one of our jaunts around the countryside around Seguin. I always enjoying exploring new areas (and even familiar ones) with Mark. It's one of the ways we like to relax - cruising and talking or listening to music. Check out other Sky Watchers this week for more great sky shots.

I just got home from Irving this evening and I must say it's been the best trip I've had in a very long time. I actually was there to do training observation and assessment. Nice. I love doing that sort of work. And writing up trainer evaluation. So the big news for me is that I am transitioning from my current role to a new one that will allow me to focus on what I love -- trainer development and training delivery. Monday my replacement and new boss will be joining the company. I am VERY happy about this! And because I have an abundance of that great feeling right now, I hope that you will also have a wonderful day tomorrow that will bring you the same happiness that I feel right now. Have a great one!

Sky Watch Friday

Caterpillar update

Hello everyone and happy Friday. The Caterpillar plant is coming along nicely and looks to be quite a big and great looking site. And lately, the weather has been absolutely gorgeous here! It's been a great fall so far with an awesome amount of cool days of sunshine and slightly chilly nights. I love it like this. As you can tell from the green of the grass and the amount of water in the retention pond, we've been getting a decent amount of rain finally. Things are blooming still and everything's beautifully lush.

I pass this site going to and coming home from work. All I have to do on the way home is pull up to the light at Kingbury, roll down the window, point and shoot. Hence the power lines. I could have edited out them out using PhotoShop but most of the time, I like to keep my stuff simple and unaltered. :-) Maybe next time, I will park and cross the road for a clear shot. Maybe. It's a busy intersection.

Be sure to check out other Sky Watchers if you want to see some cool shots of skies around the country and world.

Sky Watch

Great sky coming from work

Happy Sky Watch, everyone. Tonight it is actually raining in Seguin AND over our house. The sound of thunder and raindrops sound wonderful. I love falling asleep to those soft sounds.

Check out other sky watchers for some great shots and have a wonderful Friday!
