Gorgeous Stormy Skies

Lately the skies have been wonderful to watch - one of my favorite things about this area. The sky is big enough and wide enough to see some spectacular sunsets, sunrises and plain old pretty skies year round. I love the landscape of the east coast where I grew up but I have grown to also love the Texas sky. :)

Cloudy Fall

 A wet fall and winter is always better for our bees than a dry one so we are thinking next year should be great for wildflowers given all the moisture in the air lately! I snapped the above one last Sunday morning. I snapped the below shot at lunch today as I left the office at the mill. I love a cloudy sky sometimes.

Sunset and Stormy Skies

We've actually been getting a bit of a rainstorm here and there and we even have a chance for a shower overnight. How lovely. Gives the bees a chance to build up some honey reserves for the winter. :) This was shot last night over the Lazy U Ranch along the Deadman Creek area. Lovely out there.

Another Day of Interesting Clouds

Though it did not rain on us today, we sure did have a wonderful week of rains and interesting cloud days. Today was wonderful and I had to take a few minutes to snap some of these shots. This is photographed with an iPhone and the Photosynth application. Then I app'ed it with Camera+ mostly for cropping purposes.

Clouds But Little Action

Lately we've been getting some weather action in the way of clouds and stormy looking clouds but then it all breaks up and we end up with very little or no rain. We sure could use a nice soaking soon all around. Some surrounding areas have gotten a bit of rain but you can see signs of the dryness all around. The below shot is from one of our bee yards about seventeen minutes from the house. Cracked ground is a common sight now.

Oaks at Dusk

This is a shot I snap at the Farm bee yard along Highway 123 and Kingsbury. I roamed the hillside as we were "stuck" for a bit on the side of one of the lovely slopes. Note to you - do not attempt to turn your vehicle around and allow your tires to rest on any green. :-) Looks like the wet winter and spring has really soaked our grounds! It pretty much became ice under our tires and we managed to slide about eight feet down the hill. This is what the ground turned to after spinning tires for a bit and slip sliding around. Towards the tank.
 
Time to call for backup! Our friend David came to the rescue and brought along a very long cable and voila - we're pulled back up the hill. Thanks, David! It was still a lovely evening and I got some play time in while the beekeepers worked on getting us out of there. Here they are strategizing on the best way to proceed.

Luckily I had my boots on so I could explore all I wanted to without worry about bugs, bees and snakes. Poor Bluebonnets. Sorry we trampled you. We didn't mean to but you grab our tires and wouldn't let us go! Y'all have a great weekend!

The Wind Sure Blew In Fast!

When I got home from work, it felt warm and muggy. Not pleasant to me to sit outside with Smokey on the deck. But after twenty minutes or so, I went out to carry in a small plant my mother had given me so that any hard rain (as is forecasted for us) would not damage it. Well, to my delight and surprise, the cold front was blowing in finally and the skies was churning clouds this way and that. It made for a wonderful show with the different shades of grade constantly changing. By the time an hour had passed, the temperature had dropped over ten degrees and it was cool enough to put on a light jacket for a dinner out. Then, a cup of hot chocolate. :)

Paintbrush Sky

Another gorgeous sunset in little ole Seguin. What a lush winter we are having. This week is unusually mild - upper 70s tomorrow! Come Friday, it's suppose to snap back to a chilly reality. Good. I'm not ready for the cold to disappear just yet.

Hello Clouds

Saw this pretty sky across from the mill this morning. :) More rain forecasted.

Skies About Town

Above is how the sky looked this evening above our backyard in town. This week we got additional rain and this evening, they forecast maybe two more inches. Wow. This may already be more than we saw most of last year. Just kidding, I don't know that for a fact but it seems like it. We are very happy for clouds and rain! Even if we do have a bee class in the morning! Below is another look at the mill where I work. We make steel and it's a dusty, dirty job and environment but I look around and I often see a lot of beauty around me.

Man Over the Melt Shop

Here's what my office mate and I saw out our window while we sat on a conference call...that crane was so high up in the sky! Wow. And we couldn't imagine being the person in that cage. Yikes. We watched it descend. Too fast for our taste. And then later during a break, we had a slightly brighter, more mellow view. Thanks, J, for the lovely, tasty distraction!

Working Up High

Hello there. Way up there. WOW! I was driving back to work after lunch and I had to turn around for this shot because it so captured my attention. The picture doesn't really convey the height in my opinion. There's something about driving under this man as he worked way up there. That's the bridge on Interstate 10, above New Braunfels Avenue along the railroad tracks. See what he's doing up there? Chipping away at that ledge. That man has some guts. One wrong step and it could be bad. Did I mention that cars are zipping by him on the other side of that wall? Likely going 70+ miles per hour.

Sunset Over Our Home

I shot this last night as I came out of our Honey House. The weather has been unusually mild for winter. I believe the meteorologist said we are about ten degrees warmer than normal. Boo. Oh What a Sky Does

I'm back at work now after a nice long break for the holidays. Ten days off was awesome and our visit with my family in Florida was really wonderful. I am refreshed and ready for work now - this is the field across from the steel mill. I love it in the different seasons. It has a different loveliness based on the sky as well as what's growing or not growing in the field. :-)

And on a beautiful, sunny day...the greenness of the field right now just takes my breath away! The contrast in grass and sky colors is spectacular.

Hello Clouds

 


I am writing on what we hope will be the LAST 100 degree day of the year! That's right; I wrote it. Let's hope it comes true despite my putting it to writing. We have had either 52 or 53 days of 3-digit heat this year and we are eagerly awaiting an unusual 54F degree night tomorrow. WEIRD to go to such extremes but I'll take it. I believe this week should only be in the mid 90s. I can't wait for even cooler temperatures. But until those days get here, we are happy to see clouds in the sky so that we get a touch of cover from the intense sun.

No huge writeup on this but I just want you all to know how wonderful it was to see this sky and to finally get some rain. WOO HOO!!!

Texas Sky In July

Hello folks. Was feeling under the weather a bit this weekend so I am behind. I actually wanted to share this on Saturday but oh well. My world was tilted so no posting from me. Anyway, this is our lovely, hot sky above Seguin from one of our bee yards. It has been about 100 degrees everyday, not counting the heat index. We sure do need some rain and tomorrow is predicted to have a 40% chance of rain. Come on rain!

Monday Sky

Here's what today looks like from our backyard and on the ramp of the honey house. It's HOT. Oppressive really, but the sky is lovely. Hope you had a good Monday. Four more days until some chill time. :-)
