The Pecan Bottom

This is the Bottom I mentioned in the Big Pecan posting. It's hard to convey the true feel of this place. It used to be a pecan orchard but now belongs to the City and is a park. There is a pavilion you can rent for events, a walking trail (about 1 mile) and a driving trail as well. The Guadalupe runs along the right side of this picture. The trees are huge and quite old though I don't know exactly how old.

Very nice place...I love parks especially when they have lots of trees like this!

I wonder if the phrase "bottom" is a southern thing? I don't remember that phrase growing up in Colorado.
Very pretty park!

This must be near Starke Park. Use to love going there on BBQs. It was nice when you found a tree that gave the large pecans. Pecan trees are awsome! I wish they grew here.

I wonder...is that "Nolte Island", by any chance? You don't give an exact location in your post...

Historically it is Riverside Park.
Someone with no sense of charm or history changed the name to "Starke Park East" several years ago.
Seguin's old main cemetery, "Riverside Cemetery" is on a bluff just above the park.
Someday some souless &#+@* will finish the job and change its name to "Starke Park East Cemetery".
I'm kidding of course, I hope.
